Can hamsters change gender?

We have two male hamsters, and they like to ';love'; each other.. a lot. They even take turns. I was told by somebody that they can actually change genders to reproduce, kind of like frogs do. Is this at all true? And how does it happen?Can hamsters change gender?

None of the higher life forms can change completely, you can give anything hormones or they may ingest a chemical that could imitate a hormone and then outwardly they may look like another gender, but they can never breed like the other gender.

there is two explanations to the ';loving hamsters';

the first is that at the shop which you bought them from they were misidentified so one is male and one is the female.

The other explanation is that due living with only one other animal of its species, it fulfills its needs and ambitions with one another. they are not gay, its just their only option. Its natural instinct is to try and reproduce to continue that race or species.



And to answer the second part of your question; no they cannot change their gender as they are mammals which is physically impossible. Plants and single celled organisms are the only ones capable of reproducing with one another and changing their sexual status
