What type of fish can change their gender from male to female?

How might this ability aid the fish? What type of fish can change their gender from male to female?
The only fish in the aquarium world known to have been able to change its sex are the Sword Tails (live bearers), but only the females are known to change their sex from female to male. There is no recorded incidence of male Sword Tails converting to females.

This is probably the natures way to ensure that the species survive. What type of fish can change their gender from male to female?
What type of person really cares?!
Swordtails do but there is some skepticism as to whether or not they can breed afterwards.
uhh i think the weirder ones do that.. you know things like sea cucumbers and stuff.. anyway this could help if there's only females where it lives then *poof* it changes into a male so they can reproduce
Josh Fish.....dunno why
They wouldn't be changing their gender -- they'd be changing their sex.

Sex is biological, gender is socially constructed -- the female ';gender'; is all the things we associate with being female, like skirts and being maternal, and doing the housework. The female ';sex'; is our organs -- the ovaries, uterus, vagina, etc. The words aren't interchangable.

Fish don't have a gender -- just a sex.
The saltwater false percula (clownfish) can change gender. The bigger of the two becoming the female. Aiding in the survival of their species.
the term is heteromorphism.

A reason is that this is beneficial is procreation. In the case of the clownfish, the larger fish will be the female, and if she dies then the next largest fish will become female so that procreation can take place. This does not always happen though. I know of one case where a friend of mine bought a mated pair of maroon clowns. He put them in his tank, and they both became female and fought.
Clown fish, salt water parrot fish, and I think someone was talking about guppies the other day.
i have a male platy that used to b female when i got it!!

it wont breed with the females though so hes kinda usless!!

i think swordtails can do it too!
Clownfish and seahorses are all I know of
