How do you know when to change the gender of the word in spanish?

I am learning spanish on my own, online and vocabulary books. I am getting so confused on when to change an O to an A. I am a female. Does that mean everything with an O when i speak i need to change it? Or is it only when I am talking to another female? Please give me the rules for this. I want to really embrace this great language! How do you know when to change the gender of the word in spanish?
Oh i see what your problem is,many people is been saying that spanish is an easy language to learn, but i disagreed with that concept. Now there are so many types of spanish ascent and many way to say certain words, and it's because many of us wasn't suppose to speak spanish at the beginning when Christopher Columbus discovered all this wonderful lands many many years ago and ruin our original languages. But this isn't what you want to hear,so spanish is only original from Spain and only a true original spanish person from there will teach you a good spanish ascent. So the best we can help here is by telling you what we know already.(((So you want to know how to change from him to her conversation while you talking in spanish(i will say if you are talking to a boy for example you will use (El,le,a el) for Him, He)and then we use (Ella)for Her ,She((for example (El es mi novio.)this mean (He is my boyfriend.)for She we say(She love this shoes.(Ella le gusta estos zapatos.)So when we call a girl for her name we sometimes change it for a more cute name just by making her name little but still with the sweet ascent,or we can make it long as well but with the same sweet meaning.here some examples of some names for girls..Ana(Anita)Gloria(Glory(Flor,Florc?margarita.so for boys we also say(Juan,Juanito)Julio,Julito)Carlos,Car?always find the way to make a funny mix but sweet at the same time.So Fryita Senorita Bonita i hope i was a big help here, and good luck learning spanish i wish you luck. How do you know when to change the gender of the word in spanish?
The end letter depends on the article (el, la). If la is before the word, then you put an a at the end. If el is before the word, you put an o at the end of it.

When describing yourself, being a female, you need to put the adjectives in the feminine form.

When addressing a female, adjectives describing her need to be in the feminine form too. This has nothing to do with the gender of the speaker. That is irrelevant except where perhaps the speaker will refer to ';us';, to include herself and the other person. When that happens, if one person is masculine and the other is feminine, the masculine plural form will be used. If both are feminine, then the feminine plural form will be used.

Your friend is using the diminutive form as a nickname, in much the same way as your friends might call you by another form of your name as a sign of affection.
the only things that change are words about yourself. A man might be ';bueno';, but you will be ';buena';. If you are talking about your father, for instance, because he is male, all words describing him will be masculine. So if two sisters want to talk about their father, they will say ';nuestro padre'; - because he is masculine, the possessive adjective (nuestro) is masculine, even though the sisters are female.

I hope that helps a little. It is confusing for us English speakers who have one of the weirdest languages in the world!
I understand your problem. It is not as simple as saying every word that ends with-a- is feminine and the ones that end in -o- are masculine. In fact many feminine nouns take the Masc. article in the singular such as -el agua,el ulna. The infix-it- means small like in hermanita, chiquita etc.Look my friend Spanish is a very difficult and complex language to learn well.It has many sounds that English does not have.On the bright side the Spanish natives also make lots of mistakes as we do in English. Some people on this forum will tell you that Sp. is very easy and a lot like English. They probably know very little about it.Yes I would agree that it might be easier than either German or French.Stick with it and more power to you.For me it has been most of my life and I will never be very good.I am 70 years old now.
