How old does someone have to be to start gender changing?

how old do people need to be to start hormones and surgery. do you need any doctors recommendations to get it done. what does somone need to actually do to become the opposite sexHow old does someone have to be to start gender changing?
Except for Gwennie none of these people know what they're talking about.

I believe you're from England so things are a little different there than the US. However, treatment can start as early as age 11-12 with puberty blocking GnRH inhibitors. Then hormones can be started at 16. Then finally surgery at 18. You can download a copy of the Standards of Care here:

Now the NHS is a little slow. Be persistent and eventually you will recieve treatment. Hopefully Diane, who's from England, will add some information later. The process begins by coming out to your doctor as transsexual. They will then refer you to a gender clinic/specialist to be evaluated.

Sex and gender are two different things. Transsexual people do NOT change their gender, they change their sex to match their gender. You can read lots more about transsexualism and the process here:

Good Luck!

Edit: Kim Petras is in all likelihood not the youngest person to get surgery. She's just the youngest that we know about.

Edit: Your profile says you're from Ireland. Not sure how things work there. Maybe Diane knows. How old does someone have to be to start gender changing?
Kim Petras is the world's youngest transsexual at 16, surgery and all. She was in Germany, which has different/more relaxed rules that the U.S..

You can start yourself on the right track by seeing a gender therapist now, which will lead to getting hormone prescriptions and eventual doctor recommendations for surgery. 16 with parental consent would probably be the youngest you could try for, but it's never too early to start getting those around you used to the idea.

EDIT: Radgal- that's probably true; I know of some East Asian transwomen who transitioned very young- the only difference is that they aren't attracting media attention the way Kim is.
i'm not sure how old you have to be to start taking hormones but i know it can be done with older teenagers. you should talk to a doctor about it.

don't listen to these other punks on here. what you decide to do with your body is ultimately your decision! weather it happens for you now or later, congratulations on reclaiming your body and following your dreams!
It depends on the individual and the time you would like the change to occur over, as well as your state of health and .. how close you may already be to the gender appearance-wise.

From what I've heard, with parental consent, 16 is the earliest.
You gotta do some crazy genetic stuff when you are only a few cells large.
The ripe age of 3.
21?
Why do you want to change your gender? I mean God gives us our forever gender and doesnt want us to change it. Unless you are not going to and your just asking a question then try typing your question on google. You always find answers on google.
